Archery and crossbow tournaments, music, dance, and a knight single combat to gain the title of Este Paladin From August 28th to September the 7st, 2025 Ferrara – Baluardo della Fortezza, Viale IV novembre.
A mediaeval re-enactment which takes place in the beautiful area of the Baluardo della Fortezza (Viale IV Novembre) where the ancient Castle Tedaldo used to stand. There will be a Medieval camp with daily life scenes, duels, archery and crossbow tournaments, the merchants’ street, and a tavern where it will be possible to taste local specialities. Flag-waving games, musicians, fire-eaters, ladies and knights lead the visitors through the evocative atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The most important event is the “Giostra del Monaco” where the knights fight for the title of Paladin.
Ten intense days to get to know and relive the atmospheres, colors, costumes and deeds of our past. Available to visitors – every afternoon from 18.30 and Saturday and Sunday for the whole day – a real “camp” with tents made following original drawings and invoices, in which typical activities of the time are carried out. For the entire duration of the Festival, several refreshment points will function and various events will follow one another with an intense and captivating program, full of cultural encounters, music, dances, theatrical performances, games and songs thanks to the presence of storytellers and jesters, workshops for children, up to re-enactments of military enterprises and the event to which the event owes its name: the Giostra del Monaco.
Many dedicated spaces, the County of games, with workshops, storytellers, ancient games, archery for children, dance, magical jesters and fireplaces, ancient exhibitions, bow and crossbow tournaments, knightly challenges on horseback and battles they will accompany visitors in the magical atmosphere of the Middle Ages until the re-enactment of the battle of Cassano d’Adda, where AZZO VII, defeating Ezzelino da Romano, became the first Estense Lord of Ferrara.
