The Po River cycling race known as “Granfondo del Po” is now in its 12th edition. The main characteristics of the Po River Race remain unchanged: there are no slopes to climb.
The program has been expanded, and it now includes:
On Saturday, March, registration at the piers of the Estense Castle, in the Expo area of Ferrara’s historic downtown. In the morning “La FURIOSA”, a historical free tour bicycle race across the countryside and the beautiful background of the Estensi estates.
In the afternoon, the Baby Granfondo a “green” charity bike ride for children and finally the presentation and awarding of the teams participating in the events.
On Sunday, March , the start of the GRANFONDO DEL PO with two routes: a 133 km long one and a shorter one, 80 km long.
The Granfondo del Po cycling race, which is part of the UNESCO CYCLING TOUR, fully embraces the tour’s philosophy. In fact, it represents an opportunity to showcase the majesty and beauty of the largest river in Italy. Making use of the river’s long bike paths was done with the hope to create a striking display of the river both in Italy and abroad; a chance to enjoy with enthusiasm and passion the beautiful scenery and to get to know better this land that every year attracts thousands of tourists.
Of course, the city of Ferrara had to be at the heart of this event by hosting the crucial moments of the competition within the borders of its impressing city walls, part of Unesco’s World Heritage.
Participating in the Granfondo del Po is indeed a good reason to travel and visit our beautiful city, its medieval roads, its renaissance buildings and its old castle but it is also an opportunity to discover its surroundings. They include the charming landscape of the river that flows alongside the race’s path and the Po Delta Park that from Adria reaches Comacchio, a town known as the “little Venice” boasting the famous Trepponti.
Not to be forgotten is the culinary tradition of the region, which ranges from the local “Cappellacci di zucca” and “salama da sugo” –maybe not ideal for athletes– to traditional desserts such as “la tenerina” and energy-boosting “pampepato”. To be added to our gastronomy are the quality and genuineness of our agricultural products–our fruits and vegetables.

La Furiosa – 9 March 2025
La Furiosa was born from the desire to relive the emotions, the challenges with oneself typical of cycling in times gone by. On secondary roads, some white to challenge not the companions of adventure but oneself and if necessary also the adverse weather, on bicycles that have made the history of cycling in the past crossing the countryside of the Estensi. The 60 kilometer route leads to the discovery of the territory and the Delizie Estensi, ancient summer residences of the noble family of Ferrara. At the refreshment point special “supplements” await you: Ferrarese salami, salamina da taglio, various cold cuts, pumpkin and asparagus pies, cheeses, Ferrarese bread all accompanied by the typical wine of the Sabbie. Last effort to return to Ferrara where a rich buffet with local specialties awaits you.
