TRIBUTE TO DUKE IN FERRARA

HISTORICAL RE-ENACTEMENT FROM MARCH TO APRIL 2026

Every Sunday, a Contrada of the Palio of Ferrara makes “homage to Duke” and the Ducal Court, in the courtyard of Castello Estense.

Dame e Cavalieri, flag-wavers and musicians, Dancers, Jugglers and fire eaters, for a brief but intense and evocative, that delivers the thrill of a dip in the history of the city of Ferrara and Furioso.

A procession takes place to pay homage to the Dukes of Ferrara. This parade has close ties with the traditional “Palio” that dates back to 1259 and is much loved by tourists and locals alike.

Representatives of the eight contradas of the city dress up in superb period costumes and parade through the castle to pay homage to the Duke. Each contrada tries to better the other in terms of its performances, dances and surprise elements.

The event consists of plays and choreography which take us back to the atmosphere at the time of the Estensi dukes.

Event timetable: 10.00am, except when otherwise indicated.

Programme:

The 2026 Homage to the Duke in Ferrara will be held in Piazza Castello from March 29 to April 26, 2026, marking the lead-up to the Palio di Ferrara on May 30. The eight districts will present Renaissance costume performances, with the first event on March 29 dedicated to Santa Maria in Vado and San Giorgio.
